This past week one of my favorite things in gaming happened E3. I’m not going to bore you with my opinion on who won or lost E3 here as the simple answer is Gamers but if you do want to listen to me talk more in depth alongside EofGizmo, checkout this weeks Pod of War which we go through all the conferences.
What I do want to talk about is actually a few things which will turn into a list as I do like a good list. You may have read my article on the best Xbox 360 exclusives which starts of about the Original Xbox and why I bought a Xbox 360 and so forth.
Now we come to the Xbox One, I’ve had a couple of them the first being at launch as I wanted to try the console out myself not go by the internet on which is best the Xbox One or PS4. Well I stuck with the PS4 which may have already guessed, anyway this E3 Phil Spencer and Microsoft had very good conference showing games coming this year Gears of War 4, early 2017 Halo Wars 2 and beyond Scalebound.
Where in the world is Dominic Santiago? Ohh wait
With all these great exclusives coming, I decided to jump back into the Xbox ecosystem. There are a few ways I could have done this bought a new PC due to Xbox Anywhere which would have be the most expensive, wait for the new Slim console or what I did was pick up a Limited Edition current system as it does the job ,I want the console to do play the exclusives for cheap as possible and not be boring black again.
Like before, even with numerous updates since launch, I’ve still got quite a few issues with the Xbox One as a console, that you may have seen me say the system isn’t very good. That will continue as I was someone that was with Xbox from the start and plays on the PS4, I’ve seen stuff done better in the past or elsewhere on a console. Yet overall the Xbox One isn’t really rubbish, as it still plays some of the biggest titles around along with having some great exclusives.
The Xbox One can still play this, so it's not all bad.
And that’s the main thing the games like with who won E3 or not, it doesn’t really matter as long as there’s good games to be played or seen E3's case.
Which brings me to that list as I’ve played a lot of games on a lot of different game systems over the years, some of those systems most of you may have not heard off or think are not very good a bit like myself with the Xbox One, which compared to some of these systems is fantastic, yet some of these strange systems still have some great games.
Of course there is still systems such as the Gizmondo which is hard to find any redeeming features.
Alien vs Predator, Jaguar
Atari's last home console the Jaguar, may have not been one of the best systems around especially coming out in-between the Mega Drive, SNES era and the PS1, N64 era and having a horrendous controller. All that didn't stop the console having the fantastic First-Person Shooter based on the AVP comic and way before the films were thing. Nowadays AVP does has frame-rate issues but still very much worth a play if you can use your M314 motion Tracker to locate a Jaguar console and game or you could just find a emulation.
If you do locate a Jaguar or find a way to play games from this console, then be sure to check out Tempest 2000.
Not just Zelda, CD-i
This looks awful like a console out now
When you think of the CD-I want comes to mind the three Zelda games on it or maybe Hotel Mario, three of those aren't very good and one is. The CD-I due to only being remembered for those games, a lot of others games are forgotten part from maybe the softcore porn ones. The system still has an odd few great titles like Burn Cycle and Apprentice, with most games being cheap still and the system plays VCD's. Meaning this retro system shouldn't be over looked for some cheap frills and maybe you could find some hidden gems.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo, 3DO
It's Drunka after a night out and if he had hair
You might think this one a little crazy as Street Fighter II has appeared on almost everything, which is true but back in 1994 this was one of best versions of the classic fighter and one of actually quite a few top games on the 3DO. Games include Road Rash, Need for Speed, Space Hulk, Wing Commander III and Policenauts from Kojima. All those and more, makes the 3DO one of the better forgotten about consoles but much like the other systems of it's time it found its self-sandwiched between the Mega Drive, SNES and the N64, PS1 eras along with costing a fortune.
Nintendo's Turn
VR back in 1995, 21 years later will VR finally become a reality
A list with some dodgy consoles, you don't aspect to see a Nintendo System on the list too often but they have had a few duds with the standout being the Virtual Boy which flopped for many reasons, that doesn't mean it doesn't have some good games especially being from Nintendo. The best title is by far Virtual Boy Wario Land out of the 22 games on the system, it's a real shame Nintendo haven't brought some of these games in official means to the 3DS where the depth of the boss fights in VBWL would still work with the 3D of the 3DS or even remaster them in full colour.
SEGA was at it too
The gaming version of Frankenstein's monster
Now this a little different to Nintendo as SEGA's main issue was theses two add-ons for the Mega Drive, the more well-known Mega CD which has some classic's such as one of the the bestSOnic games in Sonic CD and a for another reason Night Trap. The other add-on the 32X isn't as well known and to make thing's even more confusing some games need both add-ons to work but let's stick just the 32x which got a game set in the Sonic Universe Knuckles' Chaotix which like Virtual Boy Wario Land remains stuck on this forgotten system even though it's a great game.
Of course other systems also have some great games and if you're looking for something retro maybe don't buy that SNES but try something a bit different, find those hidden gems and make your own minded up about the system as they all have their redeeming qualities.
Now I'm off to bid on a WonderSwan.
